FORMER Emmanuel College student Hannah Nicolson has her sights set on a career designing for a big fashion house.

Achieving her dream was given a boost on Sunday when an outfit that she designed claimed second place in the Sheepvention Discover Wool fashion event.

The 23 year old is in the second and final year of an associate degree in fashion design and technology at RMIT Brunswick campus and will be staying on for an Michael Kors Harper Perforated Logo Medium Black Totes extra year to complete a degree qualification.

Her three piece black and white outfit featured a raglan sleeve jacket, a shaped tank top vintage Michael Kors Harper Perforated Logo Medium Black Totes and three quarter, wide leg pants.

“I wanted to design something sophisticated but feminine and wanted to avoid the boxy look of men’s outfits,” Nicolson said.

“I wanted something more rounded.”

Nicolson, the daughter of Wangoom residents Jamie and Maree Nicolson, said she’s inspired by textures.

“I think about the textures first and work the shape and colour around that.

Nicolson’s outfit was paraded several times during yesterday’s fashion shows and will be seen on the catwalk again today.

Yesterday’s Sheepvention also saw the judging of the sheep breeds, while the ram shed was busy with producers from far and wide taking a close look at rams that will be auctioned today. That sale offers some of the Western District’s best sires.

The inventions competition, always a key feature of Sheepvention, attracted a large number of entries this year.

The overall winner was Ron Sheppard who showed his invention for protecting a property’s fire pump from fire.

Mr Sheppard, from Marysville, was a firefighter during the bushfires that destroyed the town on Black Saturday and was inspired by seeing the need for his invention during those fires.

‘Devil May Cry 4′ slices and dices with style

“Devil May Cry 4″ is a marriage of convenience between style and substance, although the former is certainly driving the relationship. This is the first appearance of Capcom’s action series on the new generation of consoles and while “Devil May Cry 4″ takes full advantage of all the horsepower to offer some breathtaking visuals, it Michael Kors Smooth Logo Large Red Satchels is definitely anchored to some aging game play.

A lengthy opening cinema sets up the intrigue. Knights and servants of a religious order are assembled in Fortuna City to listen to their leader talk about the fear of an incoming demon horde. Dante, a stranger to a gathered audience (but not franchise fans), crashes the ceremony and assassinates the leader in cold blood before making a dramatic getaway. You are sent after this assassin in what looks like an open shut case of justice, but as you give pursuit, you learn that elements inside this theocracy are perhaps a little more sinister than let on to be.

The anti hero of the franchise, Dante, is relegated to an extended cameo in the fourth chapter of the adventure. This might immediately put off some longtime fans, but the newcomer Nero is certainly a suitable replacement. Nero is something of an emo hero, disaffected by the chaos around him and always ready to dismiss danger with a dry quip. But he comes loaded for bear (demon bear, that is) with a demonic arm, a twin barreled revolver called Blue Rose and his massive sword, Red Queen.

A giant sword, though, is not crazy enough for Capcom and the “Devil May Cry” universe. This blade comes factory standard with a motorcycle throttle, allowing Nero to rev it before plunging it deep into his enemies. This kind of quirk is a huge part of the “Devil May Cry” charm, something that you are either going to appreciate or simply not get. If any of these ideas make dropping $60 sound good running through Sapphic demons, trading blows with a scientist who turns into an evil beetle, or ogling a buxom secret agent wearing a uniform women Michael Kors Smooth Logo Large Red Satchels that consists of a small curtain for her naughty bits then “Devil May Cry 4″ is an easy purchase.

Once you get around this kind of over the top aesthetic, though, you have to admit that the core of the game is very simple. Move Nero from one room or area to the next, defeat everything in the area, and then run to the next fight. Controlling Nero (and later, Dante) is easy to get your thumbs around, and a normal gamer can push through the game without too much trouble. Hack a demonic suit of armor here and shoot up an evil puppet there.

However, slicing and dicing demons without style goes against everything a crazy cool hero like Nero stands for, so the game encourages you to hammer through enemies with combo attacks that fill the screen with explosive effects. Grab an enemy with your devilish arm, launch it into the air with an upstroke of the sword, rev the sword and bat it away, and then pump it full of bullets as it falls. The more combinations you string together (while the game real time grades you with terms like Carnage, Brutal, and Smokin’ Sick Style), the more style points Nero earns at the end of the mission. These points are then traded in for new moves and skills that increase your library of attack theatrics, thus allowing you to earn even more style points.

This is what will keep hardcore gamers coming back for more and more, and there is a sense of accomplishment when you do finally drive that grade all the way up to Smokin’ Sick Style.

After several hours with “Devil May Cry 4″ fans will discover the game’s severest weakness a lot of scenery and enemies are recycled. When you finally do reach Dante’s part of the storyline, which is sure to be anticipated by his fans, you realize that he’s largely covering the same ground as Nero. Dante has some fun weapons to play with, but it’s not much of a condolence. The huge monsters that you fight at michael kors factory outlet fake the end of several levels are frequently reused, too, and each time one appears its impressiveness diminishes.

“Devil May Cry 4″ was originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but as the Xbox 360 routinely outsold the PS3, Capcom chose last year to release the game on both machines. The content in each version is exactly the same and you would be hard pressed to find any significant difference in the graphics without a magnifying glass. So neither console owner is denied the incredible vistas the game provides in a strange jungle paradise or the intricate artistry of Gothic metropolises and manors. The animations are also incredibly fluid, giving Nero real flash when he’s in the middle of carving up some demons.

Hardcore “Devil May Cry” players that followed Dante’s exploits on three bestselling PlayStation 2 adventures will undoubtedly want to keep up the good fight on their new console. But outsiders considering a dance with this devil are better off just settling for a weekend rental. The game grows repetitive and doesn’t offer much replay value to anybody that isn’t obsessed with driving up those style scores by hacking and re hacking the demon army over and over again.

Director Ernest Dickerson brings his style to

This moment, according to director Ernest Dickerson, represents a rite of passage for the character. His life in HBO’s gritty crime series set in Baltimore is about to change.

The camera zooms out slowly and opens the shot to show Bodie standing alone on the corner, facing rows of steps and abandoned homes.

“A lot of times, I am just trying to find a way of emphasizing a character’s state of mind,” says Dickerson about the scene. “I know a lot of producers hated me shooting an actor’s back. They wanted me to shoot his face. But, you know, sometimes in the way somebody’s shoulders slump, you can tell so much about how that character feels.”

It is this creative approach to filmmaking that has garnered the Howard University and New York University film school graduate a reputation as a innovative filmmaker. But his credits include a long list of accomplishments.

Fans of filmmaker Spike Lee know Dickerson’s work. He helped direct Do the Right Thing (1989), Jungle Fever (1991), Mo’ Better Blues (1990) and Malcolm X (1992).

These films include classic Dickerson stylings characters looking as if they are gliding rather than walking, and rooms spinning around a character.

His television directorial credits include episodes of NBC’s ER and CBS’ CSI: Miami.

We caught up with him in Los Angeles, where he had moved on from The Wire to another project.

Do they (The Wire’s creator and producers) bring you in to do your signature style?

I don’t know why they bring me in (laughs), except that maybe they like what I do. I have done five episodes. I enjoy it all. For me, I am always trying to tell the story primarily with the visuals.

Do you think that the story told in The Wire could be told in any city in the United States?

In the middle of last year, I was shooting a scene a confrontation between [the characters played by] Frankie Faison and Glynn Turman. I am in the middle of shooting this scene between a black mayor and a black police commissioner who are doing Shakespeare power play moves on each other. But it’s the kind of the thing that could be happening in the government anywhere in the world.

I guess you know Baltimore is one of the lowest performing school districts in the nation. What do you think about the show’s focus on the school system this past year?

I think focusing on the school system is a good way of looking at how things start. I love the fact that the unofficial byline of the series this [past] year is that kids are going to learn. The big question is where. I think that our schools are failing our kids michael kors outlet ellenton in other places besides Baltimore.

You worked with Julito McCullum, the boy who played Namond on this past season of The Wire. What do you think of his work? You worked with him on the miniseries Miracle’s Boys.

He is a great actor. He is definitely the most experienced one of that bunch, but you would never know it. One of the great things about directing The Wire, especially directing one of the later episodes, is when you get there, one of the first things they do is give you all the episodes they have cut up until then. [overdose] on usa Michael Kors Chain Tassel Large Brown Shoulder Bags everything that has been going on all the way so that I can see how my episode connects. They [the kids] were good when they started at the beginning of the season, but they were amazingly excellent by the end of the season. They used the art of cinema to tell stories. Their films are primarily visual experiences. Hitchcock believed in something called pure cinema; you didn’t need any dialogue and you didn’t need any sound the pictures would tell you everything. They are some of the ones that have really stretched the limits and taught us how you could use your camera to tell a story, how you can control what the audience sees.

You were an architecture major at Howard University. How did that help or not help with your film career?

It actually helped quite a bit. I think what architecture taught me to do was to solve problems, how to analyze problems and solve them.

I think The Wire is where television should be. To me, the best television [shows] previously had come out of England. They were Michael Kors Chain Tassel Large Brown Shoulder Bags challenging and well done, and they pushed the envelope. I think that’s what The Wire is doing. When I go to see a movie, I want to be affected. I want that movie to leave a mark. I think that’s what The Wire does.

Director James Cameron promises three Avatar sequels

Cameron had originally planned for only two sequels.

“In writing the new films, I’ve come to realise that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen,” Cameron said in a statement on Thursday.

Different Parenting Styles and Their Influence on Juvenile Delinquency

Published in Factoidz When it comes to teenagers being out of control and getting into trouble with the law, the bulk of the research done on why children get out of control in this fashion was centered on parenting styles. Many psychologists claimed there was not enough discipline in the home and that is what let to juvenile delinquency in the children. Today more and more criminologists and psychologists are starting to see that no one factor such as a parenting style can account for this deviant behavior. The theories are too limited, they do not take into consideration social and ethnic factors, poverty, peer pressure, media influence, and so on. However, for the purpose of this article we will look at the different parenting styles first set forth by Diana Blumberg Baumrind, clinical and developmental psychologist.

Dr. Baumrind studied how parents responded to the needs of their children, “parental responsiveness” and how that determined a child’s behavior. She also looked at how they demanded things from their children, in terms of their behavior, “parental demandedness.” She used these two measures of parenting to form her seminal Parenting Styles theory (1966), which would shape the voice of psychology and criminology well into the 1990′s.

This theory also set well with the public, for they felt that if a child became a delinquent it had to be the parent’s fault. If the parents exhibited proper discipline in the house then there would be no delinquency. michael kors tennis shoes It also led to some unfair alienation of some parents in their communities, placed a heavy burden on single mothers, and created some harsh laws penalizing the parents for their children’s behavior.

Please understand that I am not saying that parents have not contributed whether knowingly or unknowingly to the delinquency. I am saying that parents cannot be held totally responsible for their children’s behavior. Some children had what we would consider model parents and yet they still turned to delinquency. This got researchers to begin to look at other reasons besides parenting which could be a cause for the wayward youth of today. The child must follow the rules of the house without question. The parent is always right. Or the parent may delegate the rightness to a higher force like “God.” These parents can be very similar to the drill sergeants in the army in the sense that chores have to be done “just right” and there is no room for error. There is no room for exceptions either and children are severely scolded physically and or verbally when they do not comply with the rules. For example, “you lazy good for nothing, get that room cleaned up NOW!” Dr. Baumrind stated that some of these parents are abusive, but not all of them. They are just very rigid in their thinking and everything must be their way. The children must be given chores to develop a good work ethnic, must value work over play, and must be obedient at all times. The children are not allowed to express any individuality. All behavior is controlled. How the children talk, act, dress and so on is controlled according to the parents idea of what is proper even if that goes against what the children want or what society considers normal. The order in the house and how one conducts oneself outside is all according to tradition and the parent’s idea of what a child should act like. It could be because of a religious upbringing and these are the rules handed down by God or it could be because that was how the parents were taught from their parents and this is the way it has to be with their children as well.

Although this group is not traditionally associated with becoming young offenders some research points to the fact that being brought up in a very strict home can have adverse effects on children. Some (not all) not all children may rebel to the point that they leave home early, or are thrown out by their families (and become street kids). Some of these kids get involved with the wrong crowd because according to some self reports they state they want to enjoy life and just do what other kids do.” These kids may experiment with drugs and alcohol and get involved with the law. They are the parents that spoil their children rotten giving them everything they want. They have few rules, or they don’t enforce the rules they have. Children grow up with a sense of entitlement as if the world owes them something. They can be very manipulated because they know how to get exactly what they want. They know how to push their parents buttons whether it is an “I love you mommy” or “I hate you Daddy,” they know just what to do to get what they want. These are the little children in the toy stores screaming until their parents buy that toy for them. These are the children you see on the talk shows saying “I ‘m 13 years old and I do what I want, if I want to have sex, I will, If I want to smoke I will. Yes, these kids are the classic juvenile delinquents. They will rob from their parents or they will rob from other people. They will get what they want when they want it without remorse.

It would be wrong here to think that permissive parents are necessarily negligent parents not caring what their children are doing, although that can be true in some cases. Permissive parents often think they are doing the right thing. They think that children should have a say it how they are being brought up. However, they are not very good at setting proper boundaries on what is acceptable behavior and what isn’t. They have trouble enforcing rules.

These are the parents that because they have not made any boundaries their children know no boundaries. For example, a parent not exercising rules or boundaries would be the one who still has a 8 year old up at 11PM on a school night because when the child was told to go to bed at 8 pm he was not tired.

Note: Of course not every child from a permissive parenting style household will be a juvenile delinquent. The issue to understand here is Michael Kors Jet Set Scarf Large Brown Totes that in all the studies done on juvenile delinquency and parenting styles, this is the parenting style that lends to juvenile delinquency because children were not taught the importance of rules. The children from these families are self indulgent thinking only of their own needs with very little concern about others. Many of them get into crime if their parents are unable to continue to support them. Many do not have a work ethic and stealing becomes a way of life. Or, they cannot find work because they did not finish their schooling.

Again there are exceptions to the rules. I know some of you are saying to yourself, “my son was spoiled rotten and he is a dentist today.” Yes, that is true, but remember the paper is on parenting styles and juvenile delinquency so we are talking about which style leads to the most juvenile delinquency and why.

Many spoiled kids are really smart and they do not get into trouble with the law. Here the parents set reasonable rules and guidelines. The parents are not rigid in their discipline acknowledging that sometimes there are exceptions to the rules. Parents discuss with their children why they are making the rules and will listen to their children’s feelings about them. They will amend the rules if the child shows valid reason why they should do so. However, they are always in control. They shape their children’s behavior in a positive fashion and set good examples themselves. Children respect their parents and parents respect and support their children. Children realize their parents are fair and they will come to them with their problems and issues often averting juvenile delinquency cheap knock off Michael Kors Jet Set Scarf Large Brown Totes by doing so.

Director Guillermo del Toro on BLADE 2

If he had his druthers, director Guillermo del Toro would be at your local cineplex right now, making sure the sound balance was properly adjusted. It’s that desire to address all the details that has made him a standout in the industry. But of course, he won’t be showing up any time soon.

“If I could, I would go to all the 3,000 theaters and do that, because I hate to hear it and it’s not good, or see it and it’s too dark,” says del Toro. “A movie can be fun even in the worst conditions, but why try it? The sound has to be as subtle as the movie. And this movie is as subtle as a fart in a scuba diving suit. It’s in your face. It’s a movie made of energy.”

del Toro is referring to BLADE 2, the hotly anticipated sequel to the Wesley Snipes hit that put a new vampire slayer on the map. Joining the saga after its initial installment, del Toro saw the chance to add his own distinctive voice to the mix and ratchet up the horror elements while retaining the action that made BLADE such a smash.

“I felt that the two things I could offer to the mythology of BLADE was to upgrade the horror, which the first one didn’t have much of, and I felt I could up the ante on the type of action in terms of the camera style and colors,” says del Toro. “[I could] make it more like a comic book or a Japanese cartoon very kinetic, but in a different way than the first one.”

del Toro assures us that his work on BLADE 2 differs markedly from his previous outing, DEVIL’S BACKBONE, which paints its story on a far different canvas.

“It’s completely different,” says del Toro. “It plays different emotions. It flexes different muscles. It’s like the difference between painting a little veneer or painting a big mural for announcing Coca Cola by hand. It’s completely different brushes, different colors. I’d like to michael kors watches for men cheap think that as a director I’m a craftsman. I wanted to try my hand at this with a little more freedom and a little more joy than I did with MIMIC. I enjoyed this.”

del Toro’s challenge is crafting a film that entertains while pushing the horror envelope. And he doesn’t hold back.

“I think that whatever is used that has an intelligent storytelling decision behind it, whatever it is and I’m not saying YOU will find it intelligent, but I consider it an intelligent and wise decision for the story then I’m cool with that,” says del Toro. “I can create an outlandish style of violence and action in a movie like this, which is essentially a comic book, but is so far removed from reality that I don’t think it has any practical consequence.

Wesley Snipes (left) and Director Guillermo del Toro discussing a scene on the set of BLADE II

2002 New Line Productions

“I’m not shooting teenagers shooting someone in a mall, and I’m not shooting a terrorist attack. I’m not showing anything that’s reality. It’s pure, unadulterated catharsis. It’s a world populated by vampires, subterranean cities all of this stuff. If someone gets decapitated, the head blinks and diffuses whatever violence was there. I think it’s quite cool to use it in that context.”

The MPAA was not an obstacle either, granting the film an R rating. del Toro believes the organization understood the context of the material well enough.

“In submitting the official Michael Kors MK Signature iPhone 4 Electronics Cover Case 206 movie to the MPAA, they understood the type of universe this took place in,” says del Toro. “It’s completely escapist. A lot of traditional theater in a lot of cultures, certainly in the Mexican culture, has traditional violence. In Japan, Kabuki is certainly violent. I Michael Kors MK Signature iPhone 4 Electronics Cover Case 206 find this to be the equivalent to the western comic book sensibility where you have things happen in a hyper real mode. Nothing in the movie is real. It’s a popcorn machine.”

One interesting innovation comes into play when the uber vampires, known as Reapers, demonstrate their ability to split their chins down the middle, exposing a feeding mechanism similar to that of the Predator. This was a touch del Toro added to the mix.

“The idea was in the original script,” says del Toro, “but it said they were shape shifters. They wouldn’t mutate into things with spikes, they would just change one little thing. I felt it would be interesting to have this thing happen like in leeches where most of their head is taken up by a feeding apparatus, and then just become a thing that is hungry for blood.”

Blade (Wesley Snipes, foreground) being stalked by Reapers in BLADE II

2002 New Line Productions

For del Toro, this represents the vampire mythos at its very core, evoking the fear that has made them figures of legend for centuries.

“Vampire mythology, being so open, can be interpreted socially, religiously, sexually, in all sorts of forms,” says del Toro. “But the basic thing is a fear of being fed upon. I wanted to go back to the most non Brad Pitt, non Tom Cruise type of vampire, back to the giggly fun of people fearing the vampire.”

del Toro is pleased with the results, and he makes no bones about it.

“I love the fing movie,” says del Toro. “I think that the movie does exactly what I expected it to do. Is this a movie that I consider personal, a statement? No. Is it a fun movie that puts the best of my craftsmanship forward? Yes. This is completely different from MIMIC, where I would love to go back and change at least 30 or 40 percent of the movie.”

del Toro may gravitate toward the horror genre, but for him, it’s not about the genre so much as the challenge of creating something seemingly real out of pure fantasy.

“Horror and fantasy, whether people like it or not, are feats of craftsmanship,” says del Toro. “[It] challenges and amuses me to carve out of marble a likeness of a living being. My tendency is to craft a thing that does not exist in reality, and that makes me happy. I’d rather carve a gargoyle than a likeness of someone. It illuminates an aspect of human creativity to tell stories about things that do not exist. I don’t know if New Line’s idea was to create a franchise, but my intention was to create a kick ass fairy tale with great monsters.”

Part of his affinity for horror stems from his upbringing in Mexico, a part of himself that he brings to every project he tackles.

BLADE 2 one sheet

“Mexico is full of everyday horror in a really casual way,” says del Toro. “My approach to all of those things is very natural. I enjoy seeing these monsters as part of my everyday life. I can deal with it in a way that is less atavistic. I don’t have a lot of hang ups about stuff like that. I’m pro the liberation of the psyche.”

Director feels like a rookie filmmaker

It’s commonly called flirting with danger, but for Jason Reitman, the story of a woman who lets an escaped convict into her home presented one of the bigger challenges of his still young career.

“From the michael kors watches on sale amazon first day of shooting from the first time I showed it to an audience, I felt like a first time filmmaker again,” says the Montrealborn, Los Angeles raised director of Juno, Thank You for Smoking and the Oscar nominated Up in the Air.

Sitting down at the Toronto International Film Festival for a brief one on one chat to promote Michael Kors Rose Pattern Continental Wallet Blue his latest film, Labor Day, Reitman says the source of stress was style.

“I had to learn a completely different language of craft and style of filmmaking that relied less on dialogue and more on visuals,” he says. “I would say that I have spent four movies mastering one style. And with Labor Day, I went from man on man (coverage) to zone.”

The sports analogy was part of the question, but it’s not altogether out of sync with the film itself which features a few sporting scenes between leading man Josh Brolin and the young protagonist, Henry (Gattlin Griffith), as they bond over baseball in scenes that would have made Norman Rockwell proud.

And yes. They even make pie, which goes a long way toward explaining Reitman’s latent fear factor when he stepped into a universe originally conceived by Joyce Maynard. Set in the late 1970s, we follow Henry and his mother Adele (Kate Winslet) as they attempt to adjust to a life alone. Dad walked out for his secretary, and now Adele is prone to fits of depression and agoraphobia, wondering if she will ever find love again.

“Joyce, in her book, explored the complexity of desire in a way that really spoke to me. I wanted to take that journey with her,” Reitman says. “I’m attracted to make characters who make inexplicable decisions. That excites me. I am always bored in movies and books when the characters do things that I expect them to.

“I think it’s why I have always been attracted to characters who have been such unlikely heroes: Head lobbyist for big tobacco, a pregnant teenage girl, a guy who fires people,” the director says. “In Labor Day, we are introduced to two people who have no reason to trust each other and not even replica Michael Kors Rose Pattern Continental Wallet Blue in the traditional sense.”

However, it is possible to either delay or prevent the real Michael Kors Perforated Chain Large Yellow Totes development of foot ulcers by managing diabetes successfully and following a regular footcare routine. For this preventative strategy to be successful it needs to be implemented at diagnosis, while the individual is at low risk of developing foot problems. To manage their footcare and therefore reduce the risk of diabetic complications, people need access to reliable, high quality information. Researchers acknowledge that an individual’s understanding of footcare, and their behaviour, can be positively influenced by information, though there has been little research to date examining this strategy in people who are at low risk of foot problems. This is the second of two articles describing the development of a resource aimed at people with diabetes, to help them prevent foot problems. The first article detailed the research and audit process and a series of focus groups with people with diabetes. This second article describes how the information resource was planned, written, and evaluated. It includes work to gain a consensus from health professionals about good footcare and preventative behaviour and user insight on the content, tone, style, and design and layout of the resource. The article concludes with some early evaluation of the michael kors jet set wallet project.
